11 Must-Do Activities in Martha’s Vineyard

In today’s fast-paced world, quality family time is becoming more precious than ever. We knew after a hectic school year we wanted to start off our year with the perfect mix of family adventure and relaxation. After searching many potential destinations we decided on Martha’s Vineyard. With its serene landscapes, family-friendly activities, and charming towns, we knew Martha’s Vineyard would offer the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable family vacation.

Accommodation with THIRDHOME

We recently joined a travel club called THIRDHOME that we wrote in detail about HERE. For our Martha’s Vineyard trip we were lucky to find the perfect home for us and our family friends on the club’s listings. THIRDHOME offers a mix of options when booking from hotels, to condos, to large homes. In Martha’s Vineyard we found a listing with the perfect setup that included a 4-bedroom home on a hotel property and access to all of the hotel amenities. The entire stay was perfect and only cost us $700 for the entire week as we booked through the club!

If you do not have a THIRDHOME membership you can still book the same home HERE or a room at the hotel HERE

The Resort

The Winnetu on Martha’s Vineyard was everything you can dream of when you picture the perfect northeast beach vacation. It was upscale while seemingly laid back and just steps from the beach and had a pool with a bar and grill. The highlight for us was the kid’s activities. They had an incredible kid’s club daily that was packed with kid’s activities.  Most sessions were from 9-1, but they did offer an evening session weekly so that parents could take the shuttle to Edgartown for a date night. They also offered fire truck rides daily, a cookie hour, and s’mores. Our kids were in heaven!

The Island

While you could happily spend the entire week never leaving the resort, we chose to get out daily to explore the island when the kid’s club hours ended.  We loved driving around and seeing the different beaches, scenery, and meeting friendly people along the way! Here are the places we recommend:

Party Boat Fishing with Skipper:

Set sail on a fishing adventure with Skipper, known for their exceptional service and family-friendly atmosphere. Experience the thrill of reeling in fish while your kids create memories that will last a lifetime. Our group caught over 30 fish, making it an exhilarating experience for all.

Beach-Hopping Delight:

Martha’s Vineyard is renowned for its pristine beaches. While the beach at Winnetu Resort offers convenience, don’t miss the chance to explore other local gems as you drive around the island. Each beach has its unique charm, from serene solitude to vibrant activity.

Mesmerizing Sunsets at Menemsha:

Pack a picnic and head to Menemsha Beach for a breathtaking sunset experience. This beach is celebrated for its stunning sunset views, making it a perfect spot to unwind, take in the scenery, and make memories against the backdrop of nature’s most magnificent artwork.

Savoring a Lobster Roll:

Indulge in a quintessential New England delight: a lobster roll. While you’ll find them throughout the island, our personal favorite was the one served at Lookout Tavern in Oak Bluffs. The blend of fresh lobster, buttered roll, and simple seasonings is a culinary experience not to be missed.

Poolside Bliss at Winnetu Resort:

Enjoy a leisurely day by the pool at Winnetu Resort. With food and drinks readily available, you can soak up the sun, take refreshing dips, and savor delicious bites without ever leaving the property.

Spectacular Aquinnah Cliffs:

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Aquinnah Cliffs, where the striking reds and oranges of the cliffs meet the deep blue of the ocean. The breathtaking view is a photographer’s dream and a sight that will remain etched in your memory.

Explore the Gay Head Lighthouse:

While at the Aquinnah Cliffs, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the iconic Gay Head Lighthouse. Its historic significance and picturesque location make it a must-see landmark on your Martha’s Vineyard journey.

Breakfast at Katama Kitchen:

Experience the thrill of watching small planes take off and land as you savor a delicious breakfast at Katama Kitchen. The unique ambiance and delectable offerings create a perfect start to your day.

Culinary Delights at Nomans:

Nomans offers a casual yet lively atmosphere, making it a favorite dining spot on the island. Enjoy great drinks, live music, and a spacious play area for kids, ensuring a memorable dining experience for the entire family.

Explore the Charms of Edgartown:

Spend a family day or enjoy a romantic date night in the adorable town of Edgartown. Explore the charming streets, browse local boutiques, and immerse yourself in the town’s history and culture.

Take the Leap at Jaws Bridge:

Experience an island tradition by taking a leap off the Jaws Bridge (at your own risk, of course). This daring activity is a hit with kids and adds an element of adventure to your Martha’s Vineyard vacation.

Martha’s Vineyard is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be discovered. Whether you’re basking in the beauty of nature, savoring mouthwatering dishes, or embracing local traditions, each activity adds a unique layer to your island adventure. We had the most incredible week at the Winnetu with friends thanks to the home we discovered on THIRDHOME!
